any bands looking for a metal guitarist?

Well look no further:

What I am currently listening to: All Shall Perish, As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, Chimera, Lamb of God
What I am into: Old Metallica, Slayer, Obituary, Death, etc
What I am NOT into: Total shit like Dance Gavin Dance, Like Moths to Flames, any kind of piss-poor, sloppy guitar and whiny "my vag is so sensitive to sand" vocals.

** READ THIS ** Take a few seconds and read what I am into. Now imagine you contacting me and eventually calling me, and asking if I would like to play some blues. Or some 60s Rock. Or some Stone Temple Pilots. Or some Nickleback. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, AUSTIN? NO! The title says "Guitarist for Metal Band", not "Guitarist for chicken fucking, bluesy-riffs, and sonic diarrhea".

s.m.a.r.t. phones

dont get me wrong, i probably can't live without one, but let's do some hippothetical acronym ideas for the name of these life altering ego boosting devices

sometimes my ass randomly types
  • first reason this works, you sit with the phone on and in your butt pocket, then your butt types random crap.
  • second, like most people, what is it so damn important that you must type while driving, while taking a crap, while walking into stuff, etc?
stop me at railroad tracks
  • look above, keep typing while you drive, hopefully you get hit by a fucking train
support my awful reaction times
  • yes i text while walking sometimes, but i have never
  • Walked into a fountain
  • almost been killed by a car
  • or other things like that
  • another easy stab at morons is watching people drive to work and almost hitting the middle barrier, or half way change lanes. you can't drive in the first place, you shouldn't be typing while driving. they should have even better common sense questions on the DMV test, if you went to retake it and get 5 wrong right now you probably shouldn't be driving, you probably text while driving, or check your facebook page while driving.
Supposedly my actions require thought
  • There are people that have had horrible experiences driving while texting, all you have to do is type in killed while texting into your search engine on your computer and see so many articles about so and so hitting someone while texting, there is a story about a mother killing her own child while texting and driving
  • this should seem like common sense, but if your driving and have to text someone pull over, if you think it's so important that you have to do it, i promise you that your text will after pulling over will be a fraction of the time it would be if you got in an accident due to texting while driving at the same time
  • if you don't understand the above, you should be given the option of having a smart phone or a license, but not both you fucking moron

I have texted while driving, then i bought a headphone attachment that cost less then 10 bucks and now i will not ever do any of the above stuff again, because i have better stuff to waste my money on then tickets, accidents, or manslaughter

have a nice night

coming in

maybe something will be releasable soon, maybe not, but tracks are coming in and maybe we are in the eye of the storm that was 2011, or maybe we survived the passing, that left us grasping for air as we tried to stay alive. sorry we aren't rock stars who can just say fuck it and live off nothing. what is there to apologize for, those days are dead. who cares. we recorded this album for free without any outside influence, from anyone. so if it sucks its our fault, if it's awesome it's our fault. i just can't wait to let it go. it's definitely more...

so many distractions

work, family, new songs, this album is taking too long mostly cause we are too damn busy

we may have something to post soon, it's one of our most raw, brutal and different songs. i was in a rather angry mood when i wrote this song. thinking of the friends i had that lost jobs, and had problems in life. Television and news, they just add to the anger and fester in my brain to the point that i have no clear thoughts, i just have to scream and hit the strings as hard as possible, feel the strings give way and separate from the coil

someday everyone has to grow up, the ones that don't are the people that got lucky, or are they

who's to say what's correct or not. who's to say the half you don't want to be is the bad half or the good half. the best part of my day is waking up and taking the dog for a walk with my kid in his full body pajamas as he picks flowers for my wife. i've given up caring how many people actually think this band is awesome or not, if you stumble upon us, just realize that we are not doing this to get famous or any of that crap, we are just fans of music recording and making music because we aren't into poker or some shit. our guys night out is writing music and playing live

only show so far we have is october 22, our first 'halloween show' so come dressed up, and it's 5 bucks.... more details whenever we find out ourselves

so what?

crass re-releases new albums, so what? new releases, releases fuck. Grew up listening to Penis Envy and Christ, for some reason i seemed to be the only one of my friends that had their albums, i don't remember anyone ever talking about em, just listening along when I put in the cassette while driving around the valley or off to some punk show at the cobalt, etc. Each album comes with a booklet that talks about the album along with lyrics, and a fold out poster that has the original artwork and the original handwritten lyrics.

As you can see in the center of the above, all the albums form up like voltron. So far I have only found 3 of the 6.

This is the first reissue I picked up. Never heard this actual album before, and it just destroys, that first song is so over the top and in your face that it's impossible not to think about it. Songs like Banned at the Roxy, So what?, Do They Owe Us a Living (the many variations on this reissue), Sucks are all very catchy along with pretty much all the songs on the album. Harsh recordings, one guitarist is more rhythm then actually playing many notes, it's almost like they took a percussionist and put him on guitar.

Only disappointing thing on this first collection is the extras, it's interesting to me to hear just Rimbaud and Ignorant recording songs as vocals and drums only, but the soho and demo stuff is all not really interesting to me personally.

The main songs all sound great, it says they brought the bass up so you could actually hear it, glad they did.

If you never heard Crass, you should probably start with Penis Envy and then go to this album or you could even go to this album first actually. This album was also one I never heard till I bought the reissue. The opening song is amazing, single woman's voice and then noise, then Ignorant screaming MOTHER, into the third change for the song, a very hooky bass line with that percussionist guitarist adding a great layer and counter to the noise like lead of the other guitar with Ignorant snarling away in that classic english punk snotty voice.

Overall a lot of songs are in the vein of Feeding the 5000, only Crass have clearly stepped up the song writing, and the quality of the recording. Where it defers are songs like The Gasman Cometh, that mentioned opening song Mother Earth, and the album contains some preludes to one of my favorite albums growing up Penis Envy (Darling, Walls, Shaved Women).

The guitars are vicious at times, harsh and add a great atmosphere (specially notable on The Gasman Cometh).

The extras are live Peel session recordings. If you get the album they allow you to download the original live versions of the songs that originally accompanied the album. The Peel session stuff sounds good. Sounds like the announcer gets cut off at times as the band begins to play again, good punk stuff.

Here it is, my first exposure to crass. The album that led me into Bikini Kill, Heavens to Betsy, Sleater kinney, Helium, excited to find bands in the area like Pedal Pushers/Firesign, and generally search for powerful female bands.

This album got in my head and i couldn't stop listening to it. Reading on the internet now that you can find all this stuff, it sounds like Crass were starting to get the benefits of living together and practicing. It really is apparent on this album, the growth.

While all the songs are great, Health Surface to me was the song that stood out the most and still does. It sounds like some fucked up super nintendo metroid song in the best way possible.

The booklet reveals more then i could find online in my quick 2 second search about the My Wedding story. Basically Crass approached a magazine as Creative Recording And Sound Services and a 7inch was released with the magazine featuring this song. After they found out and linked it back, they were appalled sending out apologies etc. Too late, the idea of Crass at work, they were against the 'system' and that was a clever way of fooling the mass, creating anarchy in that one way, rather then just singing about it.

Rimbaud mentions this album made it into the charts at 16, and sold well only to disappear from the charts immediately after that initial week even though the album started selling better. He believes the album was bought off the charts so the big labels could squash the idea of DIY selling well.

When I was a kid, I remember skating down the main street in Santa Barbara with some friends wearing a Crass shirt. A bum punk rocker guy asked me "if crass were so against the system and selling out/making money, etc, why would they sell t-shirts". I didn't own a computer when I was kid, there wasn't information readily available, I just shrugged cause I had no idea what to say to it. Turns out, Ignorant was bummed that they were always broke and companies made Crass shirts, selling them to stupid kids like me, and the band never got any money from it. Believe it if you want, I don't know what to believe anymore with everything and everyone skewing things to benefit themselves. I wish i still had the shirt.

PS: (Ignorant playing Crass songs live without Crass so many years later? no thank you, I will keep them in my mind how I envision the original idea of the band rather then waste 30 bucks to see a guy play old songs. Last time I did that was for Eric Burden and the 'NEW' animals which fucking sucked. I got free tickets through work and they started playing a rasta version of house of the rising sun while he wore sunglasses in the darkness on stage. Exit, stage left even).

First vocal track recorded

____ and x have been going hiking consistently for a few months now on sunday. We try and head out at around 6am so that we don't run into anyone as much as possible. Something about heading out at that time while still kind of tired makes me forget if x'm tired as well, which usually x am. ____ usually doesn't go to sleep till about 1 or 2 am and x'm usually drinking till 1 or 2 am or passing out around 12am, so typically x'm feeling pretty great when we start out. We have had ___ join us from time to time, sometimes it's just ____ and x. Sometimes x try not to think about what we're doing, especially when trying to climb down hundreds of stairs that are too narrow for the feet.

We are in the middle of recording an album, so sometimes we make this an album addition. We have recorded guitar in the mountains as you could see from one of the videos x posted. Sometimes x just films ___ and _____ trying to figure out where we are or where we are going while x'm trying to figure out how great x feel.

Last Sunday just ____ and x decided to try a place that was different then the empty no structure wilderness we usually hike around:

So this last sunday, we went on a hike to a small ancient location in the old Topanga mountains. Some idiot back in the 30s thought he'd spend his wealth on a large ranch type area to create a nazi stronghold for the inevitable conquering of America. Like the text books tell us, Germany lost that war and the ranch wasn't finished. We decided to check it out and see what was left standing after looking at pictures and finding out where the hell it is. In California there isn't much to go check out, we have old adobes, but usually they are all big things in the middle of cities, if we had castles or something like England x'm sure ____ and x would hike for a week to get to it, or we would hike to get to some crazy old haunted witch cave or something, so if you know of something like that (besides the manson caves) then let us know.

This place was full of some next level graffiti art, it was so cutting edge that x didn't understand it, like the goldfish smoking weed in the picture above, or this peeing picture:

Anyways, this place was run down and full of graffiti. Cans of empty spray paint, rubber gloves, shreds of clothing, glass and cans of empty alcohol discarded up to the knees in some areas. ____ found a crazy hole and pulled out a flashlight jokingly stating it would be a crazy place to record vocals.

Turns out this place was full of holes and small rooms, we kept trying to find a place that x wouldn't get jumped by a small ghost girl with long black hair that comes out of TV's or attics and probably sleeps in this particular room:

Eventually we found a room that x could walk down some stairs and sing from one end in the dark while _____ captured it through a manhole on the other end. The song is an interlude between songs, it's about wanting to return from a personal hell so it's kind of fitting to be singing it in this shit hole, in the dark.

___ recorded at a manhole opening at the end of the room:

While x squatted in the dark with headphones to hopefully sing in key to the song, hoping nothing would brush against me:

x will post what x can when it's ready. hope it actually sounds good and adds to the atmosphere.

recording 2010 part 1

Finally have some time to post something, i put together this video of our recording so far:

First part was all done at Thomas's Parents house while they went to Europe, this was for Thomas's guitars and Robs Drums:

We have spent a lot of time making this album flow from one song to another, but in a totally fucked up hard to actually pull off way. We don't use studios, we don't have money or get money to do this, so it's all trying to see how things work. In the video you see acoustic parts and hear weird noises, these were created for the album and we are trying to record these parts in odd places like in the parking garage stairwell and the woods. We plan to try and continue this as much as possible and hope to have some more updates soon.

Till then, buy our last album: http://sentientrecordings.com/

Then maybe we can release this one sooner!

visitor

After band practice tonight i opened my garage to find this guy trying to get in. I'm glad I didn't step on him by accident cause those things are pretty big and it would leave quite a mess. This is the first time I saw one alive. It scurried away when i pushed it with an aluminum bat.

the swans

I've been into the swans for a bit now, it all started after getting the first sonic youth album (sonic death, not sure it's a first release, but it's live recordings around the beginning of the band and it's way good if you like them). At the end of the Sonic Death album they mentioned 'do you want to hear a sonic youth Swans jam fest?' then the CD ends to my disappointment.

After this we searched, my buddy in music exploration and I. At one point I stumbled onto Soundtracks for the Blind and made anyone within my life listen to it. It's dark, full of halloween prop type sounds and full of interviews with people featuring different ailments in life. The music throughout is completely hypnotic. The atmosphere is dense, brooding and punishing. However, I wouldn't call them metal.

All this from a band's last album, till now. They are releasing a new album, and they even moved the date from September 27th to September 21st out of nowhere.

The album is streaming here:

Whether the public will have an appetite for it is another matter. Genetic engineering is already widely used for crops, but the government until now has not considered allowing the consumption of modified animals. Although the potential benefits — and profits — are huge, many individuals have qualms about manipulating the genetic code of other living creatures.

Part of the two-day hearing will focus on labeling of the fish. It is possible that if the modified salmon is approved, consumers would not even know they were eating it. Current FDA regulations only require modified foods to be labeled as such if the food is substantially different than the conventional version, and the agency has said that the modified salmon is essentially the same as the Atlantic Salmon.

Approval of the salmon would open the door for a variety of other genetically engineered animals, including an environmentally friendly pig that is being developed in Canada or cattle that are resistant to mad cow disease.

I can't wait to start eating genetically altered humans.

press record then delete your mind

We are about to start recording our followup to our first album that only just came out.

I don't want to promise anything because how can an album be more heavy then led zepplin, catchier then the beatles, noisier then sonic youth, more atmospheric then the swans, etc. We only know that we are very happy with our progress as a band and can't wait to hear some of these songs completed, let alone share them with you.

If there is anything worth sharing I'll put it up while we are recording, till then go buy our last album here: http://www.sentientrecordings.com/
or track us down.

This could be one of the last shows of the year, before we record our second album and people have kids and someone dies from a drug overdose or gets a divorce to marry one of their daughters friends and drive a Porsche too fast off the side of a cliff after sipping wine on the beach, so come out and visualize how we will die before 2011.

video coming soon

we are a band, a band that doesn't give a fuck. I always wanted to make a music video in a band so i did. I can't thank brian enough for coming out and helping me complete it.

It's crazy how life works, i had no idea that i would find people that i connected with so much after completely abandoning the idea. I was always really good friends with ryan, but he was always so busy and i hardly ever got to actually hang out with him after i got really busy. meeting brian was probably the best thing ever, not only did he help fill out the band with me, but i feel like i found a friend for this phase of my life that i feel should have been a friend for far longer.

here are some still pictures from the gore we were working with last night:
